Between the sprawling sand dunes with endless options for adrenaline-fueled activities like sand-boarding, entrusting your life to one of Huacachina’s wild dune buggy drivers, and pretending like you’re a part of the cast of Mad Max, Huacachina was a top highlight of our month in Peru.

About 273 km / 181 miles south of Lima, Huacachina is a super cute village in Ica, Peru built around a gorgeous oasis, with the backdrop of some of the world’s best sand dunes. Besides getting fire Instagram photos and playing in the sand, you can also take a boat ride on the lagoon. (I guess you could also hike on the sand dunes, but why would you want to do that…) If you consider yourself a skier rather than a knuckle-dragger, they also have sand-skiing. How cool is that. And for the less athletically-inclined (or just injury-prone), sandsledding is also a super fun option 😉

While you’re there you should make a weekend out of it – there are so many other beautiful spots to explore in the area like Paracas, wine and pisco tasting tours, etc. It’s worth the drive even just for a day, but I promise you’ll fall in love and want to stay longer. (Here are some places you can stay in the Ica area – Airbnb has some gorgeous options too.)

As for your adventures in Huacachina, there are lots of great tour providers to choose from – here are a few highly rated ones:

Or if you want to go full send…just join Remote Year and do it with a cool crew of your own! 😉
