First Choice, Secondhand
The first and foremost sustainable option is, of course, buying secondhand furniture. Classic, timeless pieces are the definition of sustainable, because they’ll last you forever! You can even shop for secondhand or repurposed furniture online now—take a peruse through all the cool reclaimed furniture on Etsy.
Thrifting for your home can be a bit overwhelming, especially if you don’t yet have a specific design in mind. Check out my other article on some of my favorite interior design and DIY channels that are great for thrifting (and general home shopping) inspo.

Please allow me a lil speech.
In a world where never-ending growth and novelty often seems to be prioritized above all, making conscious, caring choices is all the more important. Voting with your dollar is a very real thing, and choosing to support companies that are consciously leading the way in environmentally-responsible practices can create a powerful echo. Granted, many of our wallets are strapped, and unfortunately sometimes the most sustainable, stylish choices are expensive, so some of these brands might not be in the budget right now. (It might be worth calculating the life and resell value of your furniture though—sometimes buying cheap furniture actually isn’t the cheapest option in the short- to medium-term.) But whenever you can buy secondhand, do a home goods swap with friends, or even take small steps away from fast-furniture, great job! You’re a part of the solution 🙂
The year 2024 is about merging style with sustainability, proving that our homes can be both elegant and eco-friendly. By choosing these brands, we contribute to a movement that values the planet as much as it does aesthetic appeal, paving the way for a more sustainable future in home decor.
